The autism spectrum team (part of the Special Educational Needs Service) run this group in partnership with the school team at Beech Hill Primary School, Dunstable Road.

CAUSE (Carers for Autism Support and Education) was formed to address the needs of local Luton families unable to access other groups for a variety of reasons.

Each meeting provides parents with an opportunity to discuss issues with other families and carers, teachers and support workers – all of whom have had experience working with autistic children and those with Aspergers Syndrome.

The autism spectrum team can offer advice on how to develop children’s social interaction, communication and flexible thinking skills and discuss what support is available from educational, health and social services.

Other services will often be invited to share information about support available.

We aim to provide a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is welcome, even if just for a coffee and a chat - but unfortunately we are unable to offer crèche facilities. We hold half termly meetings using school facilities and are fortunate to be able to offer Polish, Bengali and Urdu speakers to act as interpreters if necessary.

There are three other groups in Luton for families of children and young people affected by autism you can visit the other group pages here:

  • FLAG – a group for all families with children up to the age of 25
  • DADS – specifically for dads and male carers

Autism West Midlands have prepared many free information sheets which can be downloaded as PDFs. They contain practical advice and strategies for families, carers, teachers and other professionals. Basic information on autism is also available in community languages on this web page; to visit the downloads webpage please use the Autism West Midlands link below.
