Bedfordshire Down's Syndrome Support Group

The Bedfordshire Down’s Syndrome Support Group is affiliated to the Down’s Syndrome Association and was formed in October 2000. The group exists to provide support, information and advice.

At present the large majority of our members have children but we welcome membership from every age group. We arrange many social activities throughout the year including an Easter egg hunt, Christmas party, evenings out for the parents and summer trips. These give the opportunity for the extended family to meet up and provide excellent opportunities for the children.

Those who have Down’s Syndrome get the chance to develop friendships with others, something we belive is increasingly important for as many of our children attend mainstream school.

We also get together regularly for coffee, it’s an opportunity to meet people who understand your concerns, make friends and share ideas and views.

We are a registered charity and receive donations from many different sources. With these funds we have been able to provide a trained worker to support new born babies and their parents, we have also set up weekly speech therapy sessions. We are now training teachers and learning support assistants in our children’s schools.
