Who does the service support?

The Edwin Lobo Centre is a base for the Community Paediatric Service providing specialist secondary care services for children living in Luton and Central Bedfordshire presenting with developmental, physical and learning disabilities.

What can you expect from the Service?

The medical assessments undertaken by the centre include Multi Disciplinary Reviews, One to One consultation, Medical Investigation diagnosis and multi-agency management of children with developmental disorders or delays. We also provide statutory advice to education on children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) as well as performing adoption and child protection medicals.

How do you get involvement from the service/who can refer/request involvement?

Referrals to the centre can be made via any health professional, school or GP via our referral form. To request a form or for our referral criteria, contact the centre on 0300 555 0606.

Please note: we do not accept self referrals. 

What happens after the service has been involved?

A one to one session will be arranged in order to make an assessment of the child’s needs. These sessions will involve not only a meeting with the child but also a meeting with the family.

Once an assessment has been made, there will be a report prepared by the Edwin Lobo Centre which will include any diagnosis that has been determined and this report can be used as evidence for Education, Health and Care Plans.

The report can also include suggestions that have been put forward to support the child’s needs.

Once this has been done, the Edwin Lobo Centre will thereafter refer the child to the appropriate organisations that can further assist the child.

What can parents/families do if they are not eligible for the service?

The Edwin Lobo Centre can refer the child to the appropriate organisation that will be able to assist and support the child's needs.
