Wanted: young people with opinions!

Have you ever wanted to speak out about things that are important to you and affect your life? If the answer’s yes, read on!

Luton Council have set up a forum for students with additional needs. We want to hear from you if are interested in helping schools, colleges and council services work better for young people with additional needs.


‘We talk about issues that matter to us. We talk about things that could affect our futures.
Services ask our opinions. We’ve met with Sally Rowe (Director of People).

We also chill (relax).
We’ve had positive feedback from the local authority’


We meet during term time at the Tokko Youth Centre: 7 Gordon Street, Luton, LU1 2QP from 4:30pm to 6pm. Our dates for the 2018-2019 academic year are as follows:

The Forum is open to anyone in high school or further education with additional needs.

You may have a statement or an education, health and care (EHC) plan; you may get some extra support in school to help with learning, behaviour, friends and emotions; or you may want extra support. Whatever your experience, we want to include you.


The Student Voice Forum is facilitated by experienced and DBS checked staff from the SENDIAS, Educational Psychology and Special Educational Needs Service Teams.


July 2017 Congratulations to the Luton Student Voice Team. The team who facilitate the meetings won the ‘Commitment to the Community Award’ at the Luton Excellence Awards 2017 evening.

April 2017 Luton Student Voice Forum attended the Luton Understanding Autism Conference at the University of Bedfordshire. A member of the forum addressed the 200 strong audience to provide an insight to the group and drum up interest for potential new members.

December 2016 Luton Student Voice Forum have voiced their concerns to the government regarding proposals to expand selective schools and change the requirements for faith schools. Use this link to read the press release.
