Affordable Warmth

To tackle fuel poverty we developed our Affordable Warmth strategy in partnership with other agencies.

This strategy will also allow us to encourage residents to use less fuel. We need to reduce fuel use by 30 per cent over 15 years, using energy efficiency measures. The strategy aims at identifying people at risk of fuel poverty and putting them in touch with organisations and schemes that can assist them.

Our Affordable Warmth scheme has helped over 10,000 local people. It has assisted vulnerable people in varying ways, from increasing their weekly income to helping them access much-needed handyperson services as well as heating assistance.   We also provide free energy awareness training around Luton, to help raise awareness of energy efficiency and fuel poverty, and to gain more ‘eyes and ears’ in the community. These people can then help identify and refer vulnerable residents into the scheme, helping us to reach those vulnerable households who desperately need our help.
