Community Choices

Who do we support?

Adults with a learning disability (18+).

What can you expect from us?

Day opportunities

We have a number of accessible sites across the town, which are used as bases by our different groups. Regardless of where your main base is situated in the town, you'll have the opportunity to experience activities and socialise with others from across the service.

Our main site is based at Stopsley. We:

  • support people to learn new skills, and really live their life to the full and to achieve their goals
  • put people at the centre of what we do and be involved in the support
  • offer a diverse and broad range of outcome focussed support which:
    • meets their holistic, social, therapeutic needs
    • boosts social learning, community participation and inclusion

Our approach is to build and strengthen people’s existing skills whilst encouraging and supporting them to learn new skills, make new friends and strengthen community links. This enables people to have the confidence to be themselves and to deal with new situations, whilst being as independent as possible.

They have fun, learn, grow and socialise, in a safe and friendly environment. These are vital elements in achieving the goals of the Care Act and the Transforming Care Agenda.

Respite services

Our specialist respite service is also based at the newly built specialist development in Stopsley. The service has nine beds structured over two floors, designed to promote greater independence.

People are supported in a truly person centred way with their full involvement and that of families and carers. The focus is on individual strengths and personal development to enable people to fulfil their aspirations.

Our purpose is to provide planned and emergency night respite support to families and carers with their caring responsibilities as well as enabling them to lead their own lives.

We also have a Shared Lives scheme which provide a unique and highly flexible form of accommodation and support, either on a permanent or short term basis for individuals who require support for everyday living.

This can be provided through:

  • day support
  • short breaks
  • emergency respite
  • a permanent residence

People using Shared Lives are supported by their Shared Lives carer to develop or maintain their independent living skills and friendships in the family home

What happens after the service has been involved?

Each person will be assessed by a social worker who will work with them, their families and carers to:

  • develop a care and support plan
  • outline their goals and ensure their needs are met

Our committed and highly trained staff will then support people to engage in the activities which will enable them to achieve these goals.

What can you do if you feel this service doesn’t meet your needs?
