Council tax support

Council tax is collected by local authorities and is a tax on domestic property. You will usually have to pay Council Tax if you’re 18 or over and own or rent a home. How much you pay will depend on your Council Tax band, which you can find out through the Council website
Exemptions and discounts:
Single person discount
You can get 25% off your bill if you count as an adult for Council Tax and either:
- you live on your own
- no-one else in your home counts as an adult
Full time students: Households where everyone’s a full-time student don’t have to pay Council Tax. If you do get a bill, you can apply for an exemption.
