CHUMS Young Carers Service

A young carer is someone aged 5-25 who helps look after someone in their family, who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition or misuses drugs or alcohol.

You may take on extra duties in and around the home, such as cooking, cleaning, helping someone get dressed or move around, or communicating for a family member.

Who do we support?

Our Young Carers Service supports children and young people aged 5-25 who are helping to care for someone with a disability, chronic or serious illness, mental health condition or learning difficulty who have a practical caring role.

What can you expect from us?

Support is offered through group work in schools as well as a number of monthly drop in facilities. Young carers may also be able to access the mentoring service in order to gain some individual support which will give them a dedicated person to talk to. Respite activities and trips are offered during school holiday periods to which all young carers are invited.

During the current Covid 19 situation, we are following guidelines and regulations, most of our services are currently being offered online.
