CHUMS Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing Service for Children and Young People

CHUMS offers a range of services across Luton as follows:
Emotional Wellbeing and Bereavement Support
Chums provide emotional wellbeing and bereavement support through one to one support, counselling, group therapy and workshops for children and young people aged 5-17 with mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties. Parents, carers, young people and professionals can find out more on the CHUMS website or by contacting CHUMS on 01525 863924. Referrals can be made through the Luton Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service Single Point of Entry on 01525 638613/638614) or by completing a self- assessment form on the East London Foundation Trust Website, Luton CAMHS page.
Young Carers
Supports children and young people aged 5 to 18 (25 where there is an additional need) who are caring for someone with a disability, chronic or serious illness, mental health condition, learning difficulty etc. Support is offered throughout the year by group work in schools, drop in venues, social events and individual mentoring as appropriate.
Trauma Service
Offers additional specialist support where required to children/young people who have been bereaved by murder, suicide or other sudden death or are showings signs and symptoms of PTSD. The Trauma Service is also able to support non bereavement trauma such as sexual abuse, witness to domestic violence or witness to another traumatic event.
Recreational Therapeutic Service
Supporting young people aged 9 to 18 who have found it hard to engage with traditional talking therapy and/or are finding it hard to engage with education; they may have been excluded or be at risk of exclusion. The service uses football and music to engage young people. These are group programmes available to individual schools.
CHUMS Friendship Scheme
A youth club provision for young people aged 11-25 with disabilities. The group meet at Chalkhills Academy every Friday during term time from 7-9 pm. There are a number of activity days during the school holidays throughout the year.
Baby Loss Service
Offers support to adults and families where a baby has sadly died.
Bedfordshire Suicide Bereavement Service
Offers support to people of all ages who have been bereaved by suicide. The service is available in the first 8 weeks following a death.
Child and Adolescent Emotional Wellbeing Programme
A programme for parents and carers to get advice and strategies to support children and young people with their emotional wellbeing.
Neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health
In this session we will focus on understanding mental health in the context of neurodevelopmental difficulties and practical ways to support young people.
