Luton Family Meeting Service

The Family Meeting service is integral to working with children, young people and their families. We provide an opportunity for families to address concerns about their children and young people, and work together to develop a plan that will meet their needs and prevent social care intervention.

In many cases Family Meetings empower the families to make essential and appropriate decisions that affect the well-being of the children/young people so as to ensure the best outcomes for them.

Where there is already intervention from social care, the meetings provide a forum for family time to explore and address the issues that led to this and the opportunity to develop a plan that is in the best interest of the children or young people concerned.( This might be where children are or have been subject to child protection; child in need; children in foster care; children in transition and 16+)

The Family Meeting Coordinator’s role, whilst supportive is objective in that they will have had no prior involvement with the referred family, and their responsibility is to liaise with the referrer; engage with the family and children; and to organise and facilitate the meeting.
