Avenue Centre for Education (ACE) including the Alternative Learning and Progression Service (ALPS)

The Avenue Centre for Education (ACE) is the secondary age PRU service supporting all of Luton’s secondary schools.  Formed by the merger of the previous Tomlinson Road (ACE) and Strangers Way (Orchard Centre) units, ACE provides a range of services to help schools avoid permanent exclusions, to support managed moves between schools and to offer part time, respite and some time full time places for students either permanently excluded or in danger of exclusion. Re-integration back into mainstream schooling and / or successful onward transition into education, employment or training are the main focus of ACE’s work. At our most recent Ofsted inspection (June 4-5th 2014) ACE received its 3rd successive overall grading of Outstanding and scored Outstanding in every separate  inspection category.

The Alternative Learning & Progression Service (ALPS) is a dedicated team within ACE, comprising of teachers, administrators and key workers who support schools in the education of pupils with behavioural needs by commissioning, tracking, monitoring and working closely with a broad range of alternative providers in the local area.  The ALPS service seeks to offer a broad range of work, life and vocational based opportunities for students for whom a more bespoke and tailored package is felt to be more appropriate. The medical school and home tuition teams are also part of the ALPS service

Both ACE and ALPS operate from the ACE@The Hub building on Cutenhoe Road.  Both ACE and ALPS are committed to ongoing improvements to service provision to schools and in enhancing student’s outcomes and ongoing life chances.  ACE and ALPS continue to developing quality, highly personalised bespoke packages of educational provision that give students the maximum opportunity to turn situations around, re-engage with learning and progress into positive and planned future provisions.

Breakfast Club

As students are expected to make their own way to the Centre, we have a deliberately delayed start and offer a break-fast club as a way of both encouraging and rewarding high levels of attendance and punctuality. This is also a key time for valuable pastoral work as staff are able to talk to students about any home / personal issues, remind students or key individual targets and ensure that they are ready for the start of lessons.

Runs each day 9.00 to 9.25 am
